American girl meets English boy – Megan & Jake’s transatlantic love story began in 2017, when Megan spent a semester studying in London. They pursued a long-distance relationship while Megan finished her undergraduate degree in the USA and were finally in the same place at the same time when Megan returned to London to further her studies.
After completing her studies, Megan returned home to the USA in February 2020, and they had big plans to visit each other every few months. Like many, Covid halted their plans, and with the global pandemic, their relationship became long-distance and somewhat of a challenge.
In Spring 2021 Megan was finally able to return to the UK for the first time in over a year to visit Jake and his family. At their favourite spot along the Thames, with Tower Bridge in the background, Jake proposed, and Megan said yes!
They found their dream wedding venue in South London, on the border of leafy Wimbledon. Set within 125 acres of National Trust parkland, Morden Hall is an 18th-century country house that exudes elegance, charm and sophistication. High on their list of priorities was a venue with light and airy spaces, beautiful grounds and exclusive use, and Morden Hall ticked all their boxes.
They booked their photographer next, and it was at that point they decided they needed the help of Wedding Planner. With the challenges of planning a wedding from abroad, during a Pandemic, and the pressures of daily life, they enlisted my help and together we planned their dream wedding.
We began the wedding planning process by pinpointing the vision and style they had for their wedding. Megan & Jake wanted an elegant, timeless wedding aesthetic filled with flowers, that would bring guests together from across the globe.
They chose an elegantly neutral colour palette, incorporating white and blush, with accents of dusty blue, and touches of metallic silver that complemented.
Megan & Jake tied the knot in front of 70 friends and family, many of whom had travelled from the USA, on a sunny June day on the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend. Guests stayed in Wimbledon, Kingston and Richmond, and arrived at Morden Hall on vintage Routemaster buses, giving their American guests the quintessential London experience.
While their guests wandered the beautiful gardens before the ceremony, Megan & Jake took a moment together for a first look, and read letters they’d written to each other. Guests took their seats for the civil ceremony in Willow, a charming light-filled space, full of architectural details. Megan and her Bridesmaids made their entrance into the ceremony down the magnificent sweeping staircase, accompanied by a harp and violin duo, the perfect choice for such a grand setting.
We filled the ceremony space with an abundance of florals – a deconstructed arch formed the backdrop for the ceremony; and the aisle was lined with flower filled meadow arrangements. The staircase was dressed with florals, and a cluster of hurricane lamps graced the bottom of the stairs to complement the floral installation.
After an emotional wedding ceremony, Megan & Jake joined their guests for drinks and canapes on the North Lawn, with lawn games as entertainment while group photos were taken.
Mulberry, the dining space, was the setting for the wedding breakfast. With its high vaulted ceiling delivering the wow factor, we used this feature to add elegant draping across the ceiling beams. Keeping a timeless and elegant aesthetic, the table florals featured white and blush blooms, with lots of greenery.
The tables were elegantly styled with silver beaded chargers and cutlery, with a complementing blue water glass to carry the accent colour through. The look came together with dusky blue napkins and menus personalised with each guest name in elegant calligraphy, that also acted as place cards. Glass candlesticks with blue taper candles completed the look.
As guests took their seats for the wedding breakfast, they were greeted with the floral arch from the ceremony, which was moved to frame the entrance of the dining space. As keen Fulham supporters, Megan & Jake named their tables after American soccer players who have played for Fulham. It was such a fun personal touch, fusing their two countries together, and was a great talking point with their guests.
Megan & Jake chose to sit at a Sweetheart table (a table for two), while their guests were seated at round tables. Urn floral arrangements that formed part of the floral arch, were cleverly moved to frame the sweetheart table, and the flower filled space evoked the feeling of bringing the outside in. For their wedding cake, Megan & Jake chose a stunning two-tier cake, designed in dusky blue and white, with silver detailing and fresh flowers.
As the day turned to evening, guests were invited back into Willow, to dance the night away with a DJ providing the evening entertainment. Afte Megan & Jake’s first dance, guests enjoyed evening food from a pizza trailer, a doughnut wall and sparklers.
Their wedding was filled with so much joy, love and laughter, and it was an honour to be entrusted to plan Megan & Jake’s wedding and give them the day of their dreams.
